Babylonstoren wine estate in the Paarl region of the Western Cape, wanted to create a new tasting room and restaurant by linking two existing Cape Dutch-style wine cellars with a steel-and-glass structure.
Year completed: TBC
Floor-to-ceiling glass walls offer breath-taking views over the vineyards towards the small rocky peak that gave the farm its name. We wanted to complement the light and transparent feeling of the space with an interior that played up the visual links to the vineyards that surround it, using a colour palette and natural materials taken from its setting.
"By avoiding a grandiose or overly-obvious solution, we arrived at an interior that celebrates the beauty and simplicity of both the wine and its setting."
