Tonic were invited to serve as the Creative Directors of the third edition of South Africa's premier contemporary design event, Design Joburg 2019, where the studio not only curated a more refined visitor experience, including key exhibition features such as the Kohler Theatre, but also presented a new collection of furniture to mark our twentieth year of practice.

Despite fairly narrow spatial constraints, a sense of atmosphere and volume was achieved by merging floor and wall surfaces with muted stone and timber tones, reducing contrast, introducing rounded detailing on furnishings and applying soft washes of light to wall paneling.
